Introduction to the UN38.3 certification
United Nations Recommendations on Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, Section 38.3 "- DO38.3 certification.
To ensure the safety of air transport and to meet customer demand for the transport of lithium battery cargo, according to the IATA "dangerous goods rules" the relevant provisions of the development of rechargeable lithium battery operating specifications, that UN38.3 (UNDOT) test.
According to the requirements of civil aviation regulations, airlines and airport cargo handling departments should deal with lithium battery transport documents review, the most important is the type of lithium battery UN38.3 security test report. The report may be provided by a third party testing agency designated by the Civil Aviation Authority (such as Deppra Testing) or by a battery manufacturer with detection capability. If you can not provide this test report, civil aviation will prohibit lithium batteries for air transport.
UN38.3 refers to Section 3 of the United Nations Handbook on Transport Tests and Criteria for the Transport of Dangerous Goods specially developed for the transport of dangerous goods, paragraph 38.3, that requires the use of a high degree of simulation, high and low temperature cycling, vibration tests , Impact test, 55 ℃ outside the short circuit, impact test, overcharge test, forced discharge test, in order to ensure the safety of lithium battery transport. If the lithium battery and equipment are not installed together, you must also pass the 1.2 m free drop test.
UN38.3 certification mark
UN38.3 certified product range
1. Various power lithium secondary batteries (such as power car batteries, electric road vehicles with batteries, power tools with batteries, hybrid batteries, etc.)
2. A variety of mobile phone batteries (such as lithium-ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries, etc.)
3. A variety of small secondary batteries (such as laptop batteries, digital camera batteries, camera batteries, a variety of cylindrical batteries, wireless communications batteries, portable DVD batteries, CD and MP3 player batteries, etc.)
4. A variety of primary batteries (such as lithium manganese batteries, etc.)
UN38.3 test items
T.1 height simulation test
T.2 Thermal test
T.3 Vibration test
T.4 impact test
T.5 external short circuit test
T.6 collision test
T.7 overcharge test
T.8 forced discharge test
Determine the test eligibility criteria
A. T.1 - T.4 no mass loss, no leakage, no exhaust, no disintegration, no rupture, no fire, open circuit voltage is not less than 90%
B. T.5 - T.6 surface temperature does not exceed 170 ℃, 6 hours after the test without disintegration, no rupture, no fire
C. T.7 - T.8 test 7 days without disintegration, no fire
Packaging requirements and conditions
Disposable lithium batteries and lithium batteries can be transported by non-restrictive items (non-hazardous) if all of the following conditions are met. If any of the following conditions are not met, the UN3090 or UN3091 shall be required for the transport of dangerous goods:
(A), restrictions on lithium content
1, for lithium metal or lithium alloy battery, lithium content should not exceed 1g; for lithium-ion battery its rated watts hours no more than 20Wh.
Note: The original battery is also known as the battery cell.
2, for lithium metal or lithium alloy battery, the total lithium content of not more than 2g, for lithium-ion battery rated watts less than 100Wh.
Note: The above-mentioned "lithium content" refers to the amount of lithium metal on the anode of a lithium metal or lithium alloy battery.
For lithium metal or lithium alloy batteries or batteries, the "lithium equivalent content" in grams is calculated by multiplying by 0.3 times the rated capacity of the ampere hours. For example: a cell phone lithium-ion battery rated capacity is 800mah (800 milliampere hours), then the "lithium equivalent content" is: 0.3 X 0.8 (ampere hours) = 0.24 grams.
(B), meet the UN test requirements
Each type of primary battery and battery has been tested to demonstrate compliance with all requirements of Section 3, Section 3, of the United Nations Handbook on the Transport Test and Criteria for Dangerous Goods.
(C), packaging requirements
1, unless installed in the equipment (such as installed in mobile phones, cameras, walkie-talkie, laptop, etc.), the battery and the original battery must be individually packaged to prevent short circuit, and installed in a solid outer packaging.
2, unless installed in the equipment, each package if more than 24 original batteries or 12 batteries, must also meet the following requirements:
1) Each package must be marked with a special measure that should be taken when the lithium battery and the package are damaged.
2) Each ticket must have a random file to illustrate the package containing lithium batteries and packaging damage should be taken when the special measures.
3) Each package must be able to withstand any orientation of the 1.2m drop test without damaging the battery or battery in the package and does not change the location of the battery so that the battery and battery (or the original battery and the original battery) Contact, no battery leaked from the package.
4) If the battery is shipped separately, the gross weight of each package shall not exceed 10kg.
UN38.3 test version revised to version 6
Section 3 of the United Nations Handbook on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and Standards Manual, Section 38.3 (UN38.3) Rev.6, has been released, which will replace the current version of Rev.5, which requires a greater detection of lithium batteries Changes are mainly as follows:
Variation 1: In Section 38.3.4.5.2, the ambient temperature requirements for the T5 test items have been changed.
