What is SONCAP certification?
SONCAP Nigerian federal government to implement a new policy to control the export of unqualified unsafe products to the country. SONCAP is effective as of September 1, 2005 and SONCAP is an acronym for the Standards Organization of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program. SONCAP is a set of regulatory products and conformity assessment and certification procedures applicable to certain categories of imports to Nigeria. The above regulated products must arrive before shipment or comply with the requirements of the Nigerian Industrial Standard (NIS) and / or other approved international approvals.
The purpose of implementing SONCAP is to protect Nigerian consumers from unsafe manufactured goods. The above unqualified unsafe products are mostly imported goods and sold directly to the hands of consumers. The objective of implementing SONCAP is to ensure that the regulated products meet the relevant requirements of the acceptable standards and to manage the regulated products by the relevant government agencies that have supervisory responsibility for the quality of the products.

SONCAP certification process
The two-step process includes:
1, Product Certification: product certification;
2, SONCAP Certification: SONCAP compulsory certification.
The first product certification is only applicable to the initial export of a specific category of regulated products to Nigeria. Products certified exporters will receive a Product Certificate with a certificate valid for three years. After that, you can apply for "M" form (Form "M").
The second step SONCAP compulsory certification, apply to a shipment before shipment.
SONCAP Certificate (SONCAP Certificatie) is a statutory statutory instrument for the control of customs clearance at Nigerian customs. The lack of a SONCAP Certification certificate will result in delays in the clearance of regulated products or the possible refusal of customs clearance. It is important to note that, in addition to product certification and SONCAP compulsory certification procedures, regulatory products must be subject to any other existing import procedures, such as pre-shipment inspection (PSI). Or for product certification and SONCAP compulsory certification procedures and can not replace the requirements of the Nigerian government to apply for any other existing import procedures.
SONCAP provides two types of issuance of SONCAP certificates to regulated product exporters. The exporter determines the choice according to his / her own situation.
The first method is called "Suantiated Declaration" and is applicable to exporters whose products are safe to comply with Nigerian standards. The exporter shall submit a copy of the Test Report and a Request for Product Certification (RFPC) to the exporting country office before the shipment of the goods.
After the inspection report has been examined and approved, the importer will obtain the product certificate with the validity period of up to three years and the date of issuance of the sub-inspection report. Thereafter, before each batch of controlled products is shipped, the exporter shall submit to the office a complete Request for Shipment Certification and a Final Invoice. The SONCAP certificate will be issued to the exporter for customs clearance.
The second method, known as the Unsuantiated Declaration, applies to exporters who can not submit a factual basis to the Suantiating Test Report. The exporter must contact the office, which provides the exporter with an authorized contact for the laboratory that can carry out the inspection of a particular regulated product. After the product is inspected, the exporter shall submit a copy of the Test Report and a Request for Product Certification (RFPC) to the Office.
